Newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with patients, donors and others interested in your hospital services. Scorpion Healthcare helped create a customized system for the management and distribution of monthly newsletters for St. Joseph Hospital.
The Business Challenge
Each month, St. Joseph Hospital publishes a number of newsletters aimed at various target markets. Some newsletters are intended to appeal to all readers. Others, like their monthly men's newsletter is geared primarily toward male readers. As part of the system, St. Joseph Hospital wanted single enrollment capabilities for readers to enter information only one time and then select the newsletter(s) they wished to receive.
Additionally, St. Joseph Hospital wanted customized layouts for each of their newsletters and the ability to edit and send them without having to worry about HTML code or large CC or BCC lists. In essence, they wanted a system with which they could select a template, edit content and send emails with no need to understand anything more technical than Microsoft Word. System Requirements

- Ability to convert newsletters to PDF.
- Auto-archive newsletters on the website when they're completed.
The Solution
Scorpion Healthcare responded with a couple of weeks and had a whole system in place for managing newsletters. The system allowed the to create a newsletter using customized templates, send the letter only to those who had elected to receive it, archive it to the website, and convert it to a PDF file. Additionally, newsletter subscriptions could be managed through the website - both subscribing and unsubscribing. Before this system, the St. Joseph Hospital team noted that creating newsletters and managing the lists would take more time than actually writing the text of the newsletter. Now, thanks to an online system, it only takes minutes to create, send and archive a newsletter once the content is written.
